Editorial Review

The InterContinental Presidente Cancun, at 299 guest rooms, is one of the smaller resorts located in the north side of the Cancun Hotel Zone.  The resort lies in close proximity to downtown Cancun and a bus trip of fifteen minutes is all it takes to reach it.  Many important landmarks such as the convention center, Cancun golf club are a short hop from the resort.

Although resort was renovated in 2007, InterContinental Presidente is one of the oldest resorts in Cancun and you may find the design and the overall architectural sensibilities a bit dated.  The same is applicable to the rooms.  Though, they are neat and clean, they are not luxurious and some consider bland as far as styling and design is concerned.  In a nutshell, it is not a fancy hotel. However, most term it as a decent place to stay.

The 299 guest rooms are categorized in to single bed, double bed and non smoking rooms.  The resort also offers seven suites.  If you are interested in having an ocean view room , then you should try to upgrade to the club floor level, as all the rooms on this level do provide a view of the ocean.  The resort also has two rooms designed to meet the varied requirements of handicapped guests.  While booking a room, ask for the ocean view room, instead of the garden view. This is because the garden view rooms offer a view of the highway.

The rooms have been provided with standard facilities such as TV, AC, CD/DVD players etc.  You can locate a mini bar, coffee maker, pots and pans in the rooms.  However, unlike, its peers, the resort charges for the coffee prepared in the coffee maker.  Similarly, the mini bar is kept locked.  You are required to pay a deposit (which actually covers the price of the bottled water, sodas and other beverages stocked in the mini bar) to get it opened. T his fact annoys a lot of guests as almost all other major resorts in Cancun do not charge for making use of the beverages kept in the mini bar.  Most of the furnishings and décor that appear in the room appear outdated.  Similarly, very few rooms offer a balcony and most of the windows in the room do not open.

Complimentary newspapers are delivered to each suite, however, if you want to check the online edition, you can make use of the internet connection points that are provided in all the rooms for an extra charge.  On the other hand, free wi-fi Internet access is available in the lobby.

If you love to exercise, then you can make use of the resort’s health and fitness center, and two outdoor pools.  The resort also has a massage and beauty salon.  But if you are looking for a spa, then you will be disappointed as the InterContinental Presidente does not have a full-fledged spa facility.

If you are traveling with small kids the resort does provide baby-sitting services.  Alternatively, if you want your little ones to have an activity-filled vacation, you can keep them at the kid’s club, where they can participate in activities like soccer, volley ball, piñata, music and other children’s games.

Popular non-motorized water sports are also organized that includes kayaking, snorkeling, etc.  You can also play ping-pong as the pool deck features several ping-pong tables.

If you want to enjoy Caribbean style seafood, try El Caribeño.  It sits beneath a giant poolside palapa and hence many visitors enjoy having their meals here.  Frutas y Flores serves some delightful breakfast dishes.  However, there is not much variety in the menu and at times you might get bored.  Caña Brava, located on the beach, serves seafood, but it is open only during the lunch hours.  Alfredo Di Roma serves Italian delicacies including pizzas.  Tequilas, beverages and cocktails are served at the deck bar and the lobby bar.

The beach can be definitely termed as the best feature of InterContinental Presidente.  It is not at all rocky, the waves are gentle, and is suitable for swimming even for young children. Few other resorts offer a beach that is as good as this one.
