  • Incredibly romantic location
  • Jacuzzi in the room is awesome
  • Clean beach with plenty of room

  • Balconies are small and not very private
  • Resort is straight off the main road, so the “tropical resort” feel is missing

Editorial Review

Part of the Palace Resorts family, the Sun Palace resort is located at the quiet southern tip of the Cancun Hotel Zone, approximately 9 miles from the International airport.  With the Caribbean Sea on the east and the Nichupte Lagoon on the west, this all-inclusive, couples only resort is cocooned on a stretch of magnificent white sandy beach where the surf is relatively calm most of the time.

Comfortable rooms facing the sea, direct access to the beach, and the romantic ambience make the Sun Palace a popular choice with couples. Guest rooms are elegantly decorated with sliding glass doors that open directly onto a shimmering seascape.  Superb in-room facilities like the Palace Bed, Farouk bath amenities, digital safe, individually controlled air-conditioning (which turns itself off when the sliding doors are open) and a well-stocked in-room bar contribute to a wonderful stay.  Choose your rooms carefully because some floors, like the 7th floor, have a smaller balcony than the others.  Naturally, some rooms are better than others.  There are 8 floors in total, and the view from the corner rooms on this floor are spectacular.  If you have cash, splurge on the Presidential suite, which has a living room with two en-suite bedrooms and a huge balcony.

Food is good, presentation is great, and service is fantastic.  If you're in a celebratory mood, you can even get songs sung for you at your dinner table in some of the restaurants.  Don’t leave without trying their Lattes and Club sandwiches.

All-inclusive dining consists of International, Thai, Mexican, Mediterranean and Argentinean cuisines.  Light snacks and beverages are available in the lounge, the lobby, the pool and the beach bars.  One of the best features of the Sun Palace is that the all-inclusive plan allows guests to use restaurants, bars and facilities at sister resorts.  The resort also offers an all-inclusive golf package with one round of golf per person, transfers to and from the course, shared golf carts, snacks and beverages.  The courses are stunning and you’ll catch glimpses of deer and crocodile.  Another outstanding feature is the slightly heated covered pool, with a whirlpool at the end, which offers a relaxing touch at the end of a tiring day.  The main pool seems to blend seamlessly with the ocean, which is again a great experience.

Entertainment activities are varied and interesting.  Don't miss the trip to Chichen Itza.  The newly appointed fitness centre and the spa offer you great value for your money.  However, if you are looking for a happening nightlife with busy partying and all-night carousing, the Sun Palace is not the place for you.  While the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, the crowd is not young.  The average age of the guests here seems to be in the bracket of 40+.

The Sun Palace has one of the best beaches in Cancun, not just because of the sugar-fine, white sand but also because of the wide area.  This is one of the few beaches that have not been bettered by the hurricanes.  Snorkeling can be good at spots, and when the surf is up, the waves offer you some great body surfing and boogie boarding experiences.  If you're lucky you may even catch sight of hatching baby sea turtles running into the waters or get a glimpse of an iguana.  Beach side service is great.  Vendors often try to sell you stuff but they are not too pushy and a polite ‘no’ is all it takes.

The Sun Palace is the ideal spot for luxurious chilling out if you're looking for a relaxing, pampered vacation.  The hotel is not over-crowded and there is plenty of room near the pools and the beach.  The place is close enough to Cancun to enjoy city comforts but far enough to enjoy a quiet holiday.  The laid-back atmosphere is perfect for a nice couples only, mature crowd.  The service is outstanding, with staff going out of their way to grant your every wish.  But the Sun scores its highest points for the fantastic beach and sand cover. Smooth, serene and long, the beach area alone makes this a fantastic place to stay in. No towel games here, just pure relaxation and the open blue ocean for miles and miles!
