Editorial Review

The Iberostar Paraiso del Mar is an all-inclusive vacation resort located on the white sandy beaches of Playa Paraiso, between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen.  Built in 2000, the hotel is just 30 minutes from Cancun.  The Iberostar Resorts have been declared the most outstanding All-Inclusives by Apple Vacations so, you can expect a stay that is charming, tranquil and exhilarating.

The Paraiso del Mar is breathtaking, with its stunning marble-tiled lobby, collection of fountains, pools and winding paths.  The grounds are verdant, vast and unspoiled, with lots of palm trees and subtropical mangroves.  Flamingos swimming in the water, the odd peacock, swans, parrots, macaws, monkeys and iguanas add a nice touch of the exotic.  Another nice touch is the winding pathway that leads from the lobby to all parts of the resort.  It makes a beautiful and romantic walk, with little lanterns lighting the path.  For those who want the easy way out, there’s always the trolley service.
Note: If you don’t want to walk too much, here’s a tip: buildings. 15 and 16 are strategically located about halfway between the beach and the lobby and quite close to the trolley service.

The resort also has all the basic services with a shopping center just a few blocks away, a gift shop, and internet connection in the area off the main lobby.

All the rooms are large and well-stocked with private bath or shower, air-conditioning (which can get cranky at times), hairdryer, TV, alarm clock and safe.  A little tipping will go a long way to ensure that you’re taken care of really well.  As well, every room has a balcony or a patio.

The all-inclusive is pretty exhaustive with buffets offered at breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Complimentary snacks and drinks are on all day.  Room service is available between 11 am and 11 pm only, which is a slight hitch for people who have been out sightseeing or want to make an early morning of it.

Food is varied with Mexican, Japanese, Steak House and Brazilian available for the choosing.  Lots of freshly baked bread, desserts and ice creams available throughout the day.  Drinks are plentiful, though some may find them a little weak.  NOTE: To get a seat in the specialty restaurants, make your reservations early.  This is a MUST or you may be left cooling your heels instead of dining.

The pool is huge and not too deep with just about 5 feet of water.  It resembles a lazy river because it almost runs the entire length of the resort.  No chair games here because there are lots of palapas and chairs available at any time of the day.  As well, there is lots of entertainment taking place near various sections of the pool with beach volleyball, a hidden Jacuzzi behind a waterfall, and children’s entertainment.  For those who love the peace and quiet, just pick a quiet and sunny side of the pool and relax with a long drink and a book, maybe.  One huge plus of such a big pool is that families can come in and have all the fun they want with their kids and still leave pockets of silent areas for folks who are looking for quiet and peace.

The Paraiso del Mar boasts of a lovely long stretch of beach with plenty of non-rocky areas where you can get wet and have fun.  The beach near the resort is warm and perfect for exploring the transparent waters of the Caribbean.  However, the water tends to get choppy when the weather is bad.  Swimming in the water is fun but beware of the strong undertow, particularly if you visit with little children.  The atmosphere is peaceful, except for the beach vendors who can get a little annoying at times.  A small note to families with small children: there may be some topless adults have a roaring good time at the beach!  Nightly entertainment is rich and varied.  There is a pre-show for kids where children are allowed to go to the stage and dance.

The del Mar is a beautiful resort.  One of its best features is its lush, tropical feel.  The grounds are magnificent and the wildlife is wonderful.  This sort of place is ideal for people who like waking up to songs of birds and the sounds of animals.  The grounds are so huge that you can spend many healthy hours exploring them and enjoying the view.  And there is enough entertainment to keep you going for 7-10 days, and when you get bored, you are just 30 minutes from the heart of the city.
