Editorial Review

Winner of the “Best Luxury Resort" in the Caribbean for 2006, Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun is a perfect place to stay if you want to discover more of the Mayan Riviera.  It barely takes 15 minutes to reach Playa Del Carmen.  Once you step foot inside the resort, you will first notice the architecture which is steeped in ancient Mayan culture and at the same time reflects its colonial ties with Mexico.  Besides the architecture, you will also love the lush green foliage, for the resort is carefully tucked in between 71 acres of greenery.  In addition Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun is beachfront and offers a great view of the Mexican Caribbean.

Visitors can select from the junior or presidential suites. I f you want a view of the Caribbean you must specifically ask for the Ocean View rooms.  The Ocean View rooms have king size beds, while the non-Ocean View rooms have both double and king beds.  Before booking your rooms ask the staff about which rooms offer an ocean view.  Each room is fitted with satellite television, internet access and CD/DVD players. However, the resort has a limited collection of titles, hence to avoid disappointment, other visitors recommend that one should carry one’s own collections.  The rooms have Travertino marble floors and furnished patios.  However, those who have stayed at the resort state that the beds are typically hard.  However, if you need to soften things up you can inform your concierge (each floor has a concierge) and ask for a foam top mattress and a pillow top mattress pad.

During your stay at Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun, you can indulge in a variety of activities. If you want to learn new things, you can choose from Spanish lessons, dancing lessons or even martini making classes.  You also have the option of going for non-motorized water sport like sailing,  surfing and even snorkeling.  If you are fond of water sports then, you can look for pool volleyball, beach volleyball and water polo.  You can also go in for a swim in the dual temperature pool.  Visitors to the resort say that the surroundings near the pool are quiet most of the time.  However, the pool can get noisy when games sessions are conducted.  The pool staff also organizes various activities by the side of the pool and they may ask you to join.  You can also take a stroll down the beach, but take some beach shoes to protect yourself from the rocks.

Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun has five restaurants and bars.  If you want to try some seafood, you can try out Oceana.  However, if you want to indulge in Pan-Asian cuisine, then Himitsu is the place to be.  Connoisseurs of Mediterranean and Italian cuisine can head to Portofino to try out their smoked salmon, trout and crepes.  The restaurants do not require reservations and its on a first come first served basis.  However, you might be required to wait for a while.  But you can always go and have a drink or two, for the staff makes use of pagers to inform you that the table is ready.
