Cozumel Palace Review Rafael E. Melgar KM1.5 Ph. 011-52-987-872-9430 Fax. 011-52-987-872-9431
Editorial Review
The 5 storey, 176 room, Cozumel Palace is part of the Palace Resort chain and was built in 1988. It is a waterfront resort with most rooms having a view of the ocean. The architecture is reminiscent of colonial Mexican sensibilities while at the same time borrowing heavily from modern Mexico. Most visitors recommend that you should opt for rooms located on the fourth or fifth floor as they offer an obstruction-free view of the ocean. If you opt for a junior suite, you can enjoy facilities like in-room Jacuzzi etc. However, most guests complain that the entrance doors of the rooms are not fitted with noise barriers and hence the rooms tend to become noisy. The hotel is only 15 minutes from downtown San Miguel and 10 minutes from the airport. This is not a resort if you are looking for hard partying and drinking. It has a family-friendly ambience and is perfect for those seeking a tranquil atmosphere.
Cozumel Palace's rooms are clean and spacious. They have standard amenities such as satellite TV, AC, coffee maker, digital safe, liquor dispenser etc. You can also make use of the minibar that is stocked with sodas, bottled water and local beer brands. The bathrooms have marble floors and glass doors, and provide premium bath products. The majority of the suites and rooms have been fitted with a hot tub.
The balconies have hammocks that can be used for relaxing as well as for catching a view of the ocean. Similarly, the beds and pillows are comfortable. If you are traveling with an infant or small kids, then you can ask for a crib or a rollaway bed. The resort also provides wheel chairs on request.
Guests say that at times the rooms do tend to get noisy. The noise becomes more prominent if your room is located near an elevator. The hallways are not carpeted and this makes it easier for the sound to travel across the guest rooms.
Cozumel Palace offers wireless internet to all its visitors. However, this is not extended to the individual guest rooms. So, if you have to check your email, you will have to take your laptop to public areas like the visitor’s lobby.
If you love spending your time by the pool, then you can choose one of the two outdoor pools. Cozumel Palace also has an infinity pool. You can either spend your time in the water or participate in poolside activities like volleyball and basketball. You can also try various games such as ping-pong, horse shoes, etc. In addition, the resort also organizes bartending and cooking classes on a regular basis. The resort also has a fitness center and a dive tank. If you want to learn more about scuba diving, then you can always enroll yourself for the scuba diving demonstrations. If you want to try out snorkeling, the resort offers snorkeling gear free of cost. But since Hurricane Wilma pounded the Mexican region, it has affected the bio-diversity of the region and most snorkeling trips offer very little to see. However, visitors who have snorkeled at Cozumel Palace have seen octopus, sea urchins, blue & yellow fish, rays, eels, crabs, and anemones.
Although the resort is waterfront it does not have a beach. But many visitors recommend the area by the dive dock. It offers privacy and one can walk alongside the sandy shoreline.
If you are traveling with young kids, there are baby-sitting services provided at the resort. Young guests staying at Cozumel Palace can consider spending their time in the kiddies’ pool or they can also opt for the kid’s club that has a playground, slides and swings.
If you are a lover of Italian cuisine, then you can head for the ‘Turquesa’. Most guests say that Turquesa is the best restaurant here and offers very good food. Visitors also speak highly of the poolside grill. Try the beefsteaks, fish fillets tuna steaks and grilled fish served here. There are also nachos and guacamole offered at the poolside grill. Oriental cuisine is served at MoMoNoHaNa. And if you want Mexican cuisine, then you can drop in at Bugambilias. Try out the lime soup, cheese soup, chicken fajitas, beef fajitas, tacos, burritos offered.
The drinks served by the Cozumel Palace staff are also quite popular amongst visitors. Drinks such as Blue Lagoon, Bahama Mama, Mochachino, Miami Vice, Rum Runner with bananas and Bumble Bee are in high demand. One thing that you should not miss during your stay at Cozumel Palace is the ice cream. Fried ice cream and coconut ice cream receive a thumbs-up from many guests.
