Editorial Review

The Iberostar Cozumel Resort is located beachfront on the south western side of the island.  The resort has over 300 rooms in a complex of one and two storey bungalows, surrounded by lush tropical foliage, and the world famous Palancar Reef is close by.  The resort is only 20 minutes from Cozumel Airport.

Unlike other resorts, Iberostar Cozumel does not have a resort building.  Instead, look forward to spending your time in one of the one or two-story thatched roof bungalows.  The thatched roofs lend a rustic look to the entire place, which is in perfect sync with the natural ambience that surrounds Iberostar Cozumel.  The resort is suitable for families and couple who wish to avoid the spring breakers.  If you want to enjoy Cozumel’s nightlife, remember that the resort does not have any pubs or discos in its nearby vicinity.

As soon as you set your foot inside the resort complex, you will be struck by the lush foliage that greets you.  But don't be fooled by the outer facade of the thatched roof bungalows.  The rough and simple structures are loaded with modern amenities such as flat screen TVs offering satellite channels, AC, ceiling fans etc.  You can also locate a minibar that is replenished every day.  The bungalows are also fitted with private showers, with shampoo and shower gel dispenser, face flannels, shower caps etc.  All the bungalows either have a terrace or a balcony with hammocks.

There are 306 rooms on offer at Iberostar Cozumel Resort.  However, most guests claim that the rooms are small and not spacious.  You should preferably opt for rooms located near the pool or the beach, as it is better to avoid rooms that are located near the lobby area.  This is because the rooms near the lobby area face the flamingos’ pool and their droppings can emit a foul smell.  Though the staff takes care to regularly clean and drain the pool the smell can sometimes still be quite apparent.

If you are planning a stay at Iberostar Cozumel Resort be prepared to bid an adieu to your laptop and the internet.  As of the time of this writing, the resort does not provide Internet connection either in the public areas or in individual guestrooms.

Most guests say that their favorite activity at Iberostar Cozumel Resort was watching the various birds and animals in their habitats.  Flamingos, peacocks, iguanas, humming birds, butterflies, parrots, toads and frogs, etc.  The pier too happens to be another oft-visited destination.  There is a variety of sea life under the pier and you can locate turtles, parrot fish, barracuda, angel fish, butterfly fish, needle fish, etc.

The resort also organizes snorkeling trips off the pier.  You can also try catamaran sailing and a catamaran snorkeling tour.  However, if you want to indulge in more adventurous water sports, then try out windsurfing and kayaking.  If you want to take a walk across the beach do not forget to take your beach shoes as the beach is very rocky.

If you prefer pool activities, there is pool volleyball, water polo etc.  And if you want to hone your scuba-diving skills, the resort offers a scuba clinic that is organized in the swimming pool.  The resort also has beach volley ball games on a regular basis.  The resort also has a tennis court, table tennis, billiards, as well as aerobics and dance classes.

If you are traveling with small kids, then they can enjoy themselves at Lucy’s Mini-Club, where they can learn about painting, singing and host of other games and activities.  In addition, they can also try out the special kid’s pool.

Iberostar Cozumel Resort has a steak house, a Mexican restaurant and an American themed restaurant called as ‘Star Rock Café’.  Most visitors say that the fillet steak offered at the Steak restaurant is delicious.  Similarly, kebab steak with tequila sauce served at the Mexican restaurant is a favorite among many.

Don't forget to visit the CDC PADI Gold Palm Resort Dive Center.  The instructors at the center are good and the center organizes diving and nitrox courses that are graded for learners with varying capabilities.  It also organizes local dives, night dives and cenote diving sessions.
