Getting Married at a Mexico Resort - All Inclusive Wedding in Mexico

Mexico is becoming quite the rage with Americans and Canadians when it comes to picking the locale for a destination wedding. And why not? The stunning backdrop of verdant greenery and beautiful beaches along with the grand old colonial cities reminding you of your favorite romantic movie makes a heady combination for lovers all over the world.

Couples who decide to get married in Mexico generally tie it up with one of the many luxurious resorts here. These resorts will guide you through the entire process. Right from informing you of the necessary legal requirements to taking care of your honeymoon bookings, they take the stress factor out of your marriage. The only thing you have to do is to check the weather, fix an appropriate date and pick a resort of your choice! Couldn’t be easier.

Here are some of the top destinations to get married in Mexico:

Cancun: Voted as the #1 spot for honeymooning, Cancun is quickly becoming a wedding hotspot. That is because you won’t find a place as diverse and stunning as Cancun with its spectacular coral life, sandy beaches and deep blue waters. Some of the best resorts to check out in this area include:

Los Cabos: Cabo San Lucas is filled with deserted beaches making this an awesome spot for a destination wedding. In fact, if cost is not a factor, this place can host a wedding that no one is likely to forget quickly. Don’t believe me? Ask any one of the hundreds of celebrities who come here.

  • The Palmilla Resort : Ever dreamt of getting married in a magnificent chapel and driving away into the sunset with your beau in a horse-drawn carriage? This is the place where it will come true. Not recommended for those who are on a tight budget as a regular wedding can cost you more than $10,000. Don’t be surprised when you catch sight of celebrities while you stay here. http://www.oneandonlyresorts.com/

Riviera Maya: Located at the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula, the Riviera Maya is surrounded by crystal clear waters that can entice even the most hard-hearted of visitors. The landscape is breathtaking with Lush jungles weaving in and out of riveting waterscape.

  • Hotel El Cid Marina Riviera Maya: Offers special theme areas for the wedding, includes bridal bouquet, groom’s Boutonniere, champagne, wedding cake and witnesses for the basic package of $1,000.
  • The Dreams Tulum Riviera Maya is one of the most beautiful resorts in the Maya. The hotel offers a complimentary wedding package when booking the honeymoon suite. (check current availability of offer)

Bored of the ordinary? If you dream of a wedding that is unusual, then Mexico has a number of ideas.

Cozumel: How about getting married underwater? You won’t believe the number of couples who are actually doing it. Makes a lot of sense if both of you are diving enthusiasts.

  • The Grand Cozumel Hotel: Located in Cozumel, your underwater wedding will cost you roughly $2,800. Offer also includes boat rental, equipment, wedding cake, champagne, flowers and the ceremony.

If plunging into the waters of the ocean is not your idea of a cozy wedding, then you can cruise the waters in a sleek yacht and get married in style! For as low as $500, you can hold your wedding on a yacht. If you don’t mind splurging, then you can charter a private yacht and enjoy a 7-day wedding cruise with friends for a mere $20,000!  Check with you travel agent or resort concierge for recommendations.

Want to get married in your birthday suit? Mexico lets you do just that! The Hidden Beach Nudist Resort is only recommended for people looking for something out of this world. Ceremonies cost about $1,000. This includes a fully clothed minister, of course. Check it out at http://www.hiddenbeachresort.com

Legal Prerequisites - Getting married in Mexico is a simple affair, but you will need to provide the following documents:

  • Copies of your passport.
  • Birth certificates to prove that you and your spouse are above 18 years of age.
  • Home address and occupation of both spouses.
  • Tourist ID.
  • Blood tests, taken not more than 15 days ago. Some places also insist on chest X-rays.
  • Witnesses - Check with the resort to see how many witnesses are required in your resort's state. (typically 4)
  • If you are divorced, you will have to provide copies of the divorce decree. You can get married only after a year of your divorce.
  • If you are widowed, don’t forget to bring a copy of the death certificate.

Your resort will typically arrange everything, but you should book at least four weeks in advance just to be safe.

So if you have decided to get married at a resort in Mexico there are certain things you can do to make your wedding a smooth affair:

  • Religious or civil ceremony: Decide with care. Many resorts offer touching religious ceremonies. But, in Mexico, traditional weddings are only ceremonial; only civil marriages are legal. However, if your heart is set on a ceremonial marriage in Mexico, you can get legally married in your home country and hold the ceremony in Mexico.
  • Listen to the weatherman: The rains are quite unpredictable in this coastal area and can come just when you’re ready to exchange vows!
  • Choose a travel agent: If you’re planning to have a grand wedding, choose an agent who will ensure that all your guests arrive on time.
  • Visit the place: Friends may rave and websites may have great photos. But hey, it’s your wedding. Visit the place and see it firsthand so you don’t get any nasty surprises at the time of your wedding.

With more and more people longing for outstanding and impressive locales on their wedding day, the demand for exotic resorts at stirring destinations is on the rise. Mexico holds out some of the most romantic sites for a memorable wedding. All the more reason to consider tying the knot at one of the wonderful resorts here.
