Cabo San Lucas NightLife

Cabo San Lucas or Cabo ‘PARTY’ San Lucas is THE hip and happening party town of the Baja Peninsula. The nightlife here is sizzling throughout the year, which has earned it a telling pet name - the Wild West of Hedonism in Mexico. So, quite literally, anything can happen on your night out in Cabo! And that’s the thrill.

For those not in the know, Cabo San Lucas lies at the southernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula and is located about 1,000 miles southeast of San Diego, California. It is a big Spring Break destination known for its night clubs. Nightlife starts early and pulsates into the wee hours of the morning. Beachside bars are abundant, and why not! Street side drinking is permitted. You can even nurse a bottle on the beach.

Most of the popular clubs are within a ten-block radius and there is a good mix of piano bars, sports bars, Latin dance clubs and trendy international venues. You can go club hopping, socializing, dancing or guzzling drinks till the morning hours. ‘Never a dull moment’ is what tourists say. Some of the most popular spots here are:

El Squid Roe (map): If you like lively socializing and dancing, go to what may be "Mexico’s #1 nightclub", the El Squid Roe.  El Squid Roe is a three-storey dance hall cum restaurant. Well, actually it is two-storied because the ground level opens into the street. Wild nights for everyone between the age of 18 and 80 – that’s what the Roe promises you! Minors are welcome till 10.30, after which the real fun begins. Enjoy the party atmosphere and have the time of your life surrounded by ecstatic dancing, hooting spectators hanging from railings and energetic waiters fighting their way through the crowd armed with tequila bottles. The place is electric to say the least. But hey! who’s complaining? You’re here to party the night away and El Squid Roe has everything to make you do just that!

Cabo Wabo (map): Owned by Sammy Haggar, this is the place where you’ll catch a glimpse of the famous and the not-so-famous. So don’t feel too bad if you can’t get a toe in on a busy night, which is most likely the case throughout the year in San Lucas’s #1 club. Cabo Wabo has a main room with a raised stage that gives the place a concert-venue feel. There is a spacious dance floor, where the house band plays hard rock. If you’re lucky enough, you might even see Sammy on one of his impromptu visits. The busy bar keeps everyone in high spirits or “Waboed”, as Sammy likes to say. If you like to dance and drink after you’ve had a hearty meal, go up a level and partake of the great stuff that the world class chefs whip up for you. Want a breather from the club? You won't have to go far. There is an open-air taco grill with a bar and a patio. If you go in October, you will catch Sammy in the birthday mood. This is when he throws a weeklong bash with first-come first-serve tickets. On all other nights, reserve your tickets well in advance.

Giggling Marlin Bar & Grill (map): A regular party spot since 1984, this could probably be the club to start your round of partying for the night. Here, the mercury starts rising by 8 pm. The dirty-dancing style dance floor simply lures you to shake your booty. You will find generous audience participation, with singing and clapping to keep you going throughout the night. And if you want a funny show, check this place out between 9:30 and 10. They pull people from the audience and have some awesome activity that you don’t want to miss. There is also the famous Skip and Go Naked Cocktail where, if you drink it all up, it will be on the house. Plenty of other attractions like dancing on the bar, impromptu conga line dancing and other bits of usual Cabo raunchiness keeps the pace up late into the night. Short skirts beware: things get really naughty as the night wears on and people get "happier".

Sancho Panza: This Night Club is in downtown Cabo San Lucas and is a Boomer hangout known for its good food and wine. But what really marks the place is the live Latin jazz and awesome blues they croon. This makes a fantastic alternative to the other boisterous clubs. The ambience is quiet and elegant with Dali, Picasso and original Cuban art.  It's a great place for singles to talk and mingle (quietly of course). You will come across some of Cabo’s best musicians in this cool hangout. But watch out, the kitchen shuts its door at 11 pm.

Some other popular hangouts include the Mambo Café, which is famous for its Latin-pop and Latin-Caribbean music and is one of the best places to show off your skills in mambo, salsa, merengue, bachata and cumbia. Ladies nights on Thursdays and Sundays where ladies get free drinks till 11 pm. The Gay Friendly Nightclub draws gays, lesbians and a lot of cool straight crowd. Drinks are great, waiters are eye-popping and the prices are too good to be true. Clubbing starts late even though the doors are open from 4 pm. With the largest tequila bar in the world, Pancho’s is the place to go if you want to sample some of their 450 options. If you like Mexican stuff right from music to food, drop in at the Las Veritas. The place is usually overflowing with young Mexicans. So it’s best to go with some Mexican friends.

This is just the tip of the party-berg! There is a lot more clubbing and joyful dancing at San Lucas. As they say down there, life in San Lucas is one long party!
