Cabo San Lucas Travel - Los Cabos Overview

The name "Los Cabos" means "the Capes."  Los Cabos is the area between two towns on Mexico’s Baja peninsula, Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.  San José del Cabo was originally founded as a mission town and retains much of the old world character it once had.  On the other hand, Cabo San Lucas is an active place with a myriad of clubs, restaurants and shops.  The two towns are endpoints of a 20 mile section of coastline called the "Corridor", with the Sea of Cortes on the peninsula's East and the Pacific Ocean on the West.  Up until the 1960s and '70s, the Baja Sur was an almost unknown tourist destination, but now has been developed with an array of upscale hotels, golf course, and other tourist amenities.

Topographically, the Los Cabos area is a mix of white sand, desert, and striking rock outcroppings.  El Arco, a rock arch, is the area's most prominent landmark.  It sits exactly at the point where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez.
