Our Rating: 4/5 Stars ~ Loved the atmosphere.

My roommate and I had just spent a week in New York and decided to take a quick jaunt over to Cabo San Lucas to finish our mini-vacation.  We caught a US Airways flight from JFK, connected in Chicago, and arrived in Cabo around noon (overall a 6 hour trip).  The hotel is about 45 minutes from the airport, which made it easy to get to.

The resort is not very large and has a hacienda feel with very modern architecture.  When you arrive, the first thing you will notice inside is that the lobby is open, airy, and has views of both the pool and the ocean.  We took a standard room at the far end of the building which took all of 5 minutes to get to.  Compared to our hotel room in New York, the ME’s room was quite spacious.  It featured two large beds, a seating area, and a place to have a drinks/snacks.  There are lots of things to do at ME.  The resort has two swimming pools, tennis courts, restaurants, and amazing views of Cabo San Lucas Bay.

The pools are clean and offer a fun-filled atmosphere.  The beds and cabanas next to the pool are a welcome change from the usual lounge chairs that are sighted at most pools.  Though, you will not have to pay any charge for using the bed, reserving it for the entire day will attract an additional charge.

The beach is clean and there are few rocks on it.  But as night approaches, the beach takes on a different personality.  Jazz bands and DJs descend upon it and spin loud music.  Most visitors claim that the DJ mostly plays house music and at times it can get monotonous.  Talking about music, the resort also has a club that goes by the name ‘Passion Club’.  If you are a fan of loud and hard music, then this might be the perfect place for you to let your hair down.  If you are a fan of techno or progressive music, the resort also plays music near the pool.

Walking around, we found that the resort mainly attracts young couples and single people.  There is definitely a party atmosphere in the air.  I spent most of my time hanging out at the pool and beach front bar, but we did manage to also get into town for some shopping and to hit a couple of the night clubs.  Downtown Cabo and the marina is only a 10 minute walk, but if you want to take a taxi $6 buck will get you almost anywhere you want to go.

There’s a mall by the marina that has duty free shopping.  As well we did go and check out the Cabo Wabo and Zoo nightclubs.  Let me just say that the clubs were very touristy, and there were lots of crazy people doing crazy things.  If you like that kind of stuff, … you know where to go.

One of the things I would recommend is to try the spa.  They offer hot-stone massage, exfoliation, facial massages, paraffin treatments, Temascal, hydro-massages and VicciShower.  Over the 4 days we stayed there, I got 8 hours worth of spa treatments including a massage by the pool.  I forget how much this cost… but it was well worth it!

If you are in a mood for tasting some authentic Mexican cuisine, then you can head for the Passion Club restaurant.  However, Mexican cuisine is offered only on selected days.  If you would like to try some global dishes, then you can head out to the Nikki Beach restaurant.  Be sure to try out mimosas for breakfast, and the spider rolls and guacamole at the poolside snacks bar.  I highly recommend the buffet breakfast.  (but don’t try the sushi.)

The rooms offer a good view of the Cabo San Lucas Bay.  When it comes to choosing a room in the ME Cabo, you should first ask yourself whether you are there for partying till the wee hours of the morning.  If so, then you should probably opt for a room that is near the Passion club.  However, those who would like to get a good nights sleep you should avoid this section of the resort as at times the music can get very loud.

The rooms that are located in the ‘Level Suite’ can be termed as one of the best features of the hotel.  28 Petite Suite, 9 Deluxe Ocean Front, 3 Corner Ocean Front Suites, 4 Club Suite, 4 Nikki Suite, 8 Energy Suite, 3 Chic Suites and 3 Loft Suites.  Guests residing in these suites are treated with complimentary in-room breakfasts and sun deck, while those choosing to stay in the Loft and Chic Suites also get a whirlpool and outdoor shower.

One of the things I would recommend doing outside the resort is to go on the ATV tour.  We did a 4 hour tour that took us through 2 villages, through desert terrain and a river, and to some of the high country around Cabo.  What a great time!

We would definitely go back to ME Cabo.  If you’re a young person looking for a fun time in a party atmosphere, this is the place for you.
