Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort Review
|
The Grand Velas is recognized as one of the "Leading Hotels of the World". It was built in 2002, and is designed in a contemporary Mexican architecture. The hotel offers guest 267 rooms in a 9 storey beachfront resort. Guests can also enjoy the 16,500 sf spa and fitness facility. The Grand Velas is located only 10 minutes from the airport, and 25 minutes from downtown PV. The resort also has the distinction of earning the sobriquet of “Best Luxury Hotel in the World”. Located on the edge of Banderas Bay in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, it is one of the most popular resorts in the area. Part of this popularity can be attributed to the fact that the resort offers an easy access to tourist destinations such as El Malecon, Vista Vallarta, Mayan Palace Country Club, El Tigre Golf Course etc. Visitors state that this all-inclusive resort offers a perfect family atmosphere and is suitable for people who are looking for spending quality time with their loved ones.
Your stay at Grand Velas begins with an iced drink and a cold towel. When you are done with the formalities at the front desk you will be taken to your room. The rooms are clean, spacious, and well maintained. You can locate standard amenities in the rooms such as AC, coffee maker, safe, and minibar. The minibar is stocked with beer, sodas, soft drinks etc. The in-room entertainment includes cable TV, DVD/CD/MP3 player etc. If you want, you can bring your own DVD collection to play in-room. Grand Velas also provides high speed wi-fi Internet connection in individual guest rooms. However, you will have to pay a surcharge for this.
The resort offers 267 rooms that are classified into categories such as Parlor Suites, Master Suite, Ambassador Suite, Governor Suite 1-Bedroom, Governor Suite 2-Bedroom, Ambassador Grand Class, Presidential Suite, and Imperial Spa Suite. If you are travelling in large groups, then you can opt for the Presidential Suite, which offers amenities such as private bathrooms with Jacuzzis, complimentary maid, butler and bartender services. Most visitors claim that almost all the rooms offer a good view of the bay. However, those on the lower levels offer a clear view of the ocean whereas those on the higher levels offer a view of the pool and the ocean.
The Grand Velas is a beachfront resort whose beach is free from rocks and seaweed. However, the water is not suitable for swimming as the currents are strong. If you love beach activities, then you can participate in beach volleyball and bocce ball. Grand Velas also provides you the option of swimming in the three-tiered infinity swimming pool. The staff also conducts activities such as water volleyball, water polo and water aerobics. Visitors highly recommend the poolside sea lion show organised by the staff. However, visitors say that the pool is often crowded and the activities are a bit loud. If you find the pool atmosphere not for your children, then you can take them to the children’s pool. You can also put them in the Kids Club where they can try out arts and crafts and activities such as stone painting, kite making, piñata making, necklace making and hand painting etc.
As far as non-motorized sports are concern, Grand Velas provides the options of snorkelling, kayaking, boogie boarding, introductory scuba diving classes etc. If you happen to be a fitness freak, then you can try out pilate, yoga, and meditation classes organised by the staff. The resort also has a gym, but visitors say that it is small and tends to get crowded. Guests also recommend trying out the dance classes that are offered.
If you want to savor Mexican cuisine, then you should head for Frida. Guests state that the tortilla soup, black bean soup and stuffed chille served at Frida must not be missed. Similarly, Azul should not be missed for its Mexican Buffet. It also serves Chinese, Japanese, and Italian specialties. If you want to try out exotic Italian dishes like Club Crobalo al Duo di Pesto, and Basil and Black Olive sauce on Ravioli and a bed of mushrooms, then Lucca should feature on your itinerary. Most visitors prefer this restaurant for dinner. Visitors also give thumbs up to the food served for the in-room service option. Do not miss Mahi Mahi and the chicken quesadillas. As far as drinks are concerned, Grand Velas is reputed for serving high shelf liquor such as Julio Respados, Baileys, Absolute and Bacardi. Visitors also say that the drinks are strong and Grand Velas provides one free bottle of drink per day to each room. During your stay, do not forget to try some Felipe’s coffee.
Best Feature: Visitors say that the Spa at Grand Velas is one of the best. You can try out holistic massage, marine body wrap, hot thermal fango therapy, therapeutic massage etc.
