Hotel RIU Jalisco Review
|
The 5 storey, 700 room, RIU Jalisco is part of the Spanish RIU hotel chain and was built in 2002. The hotel sits beachfront along beautiful Playa de Flamingos beach on Banderas Bay and is only 20 minutes from the airport, and 30 minutes from downtown PV. The Riu Jalisco is an all-inclusive resort and is one of the new and upcoming names in the hospitality industry in this region. Guests can pick from 700 guestrooms that are classified into standard rooms and junior suites. Junior suites come with added luxuries such as a separate living room and dressing room as well as an in-room Jacuzzi. For most visitors the appeal of the resort lies in its location. If you are planning to spend a great deal of time in the downtown region, then you might find the resort’s location a bit inconvenient.
Guests at the Riu Jalisco are greeted with a cold fruit drink. It is
then time to complete the check in formalities which you may find to be
a bit of a long winding process. The waiting period only increases
during the holiday season; during the off-season it is a breeze. The
rooms are clean, large, and fitted with standard amenities such as AC,
ceiling fans, satellite TV, liquor dispenser, min-fridge and a
telephone. Talking about AC, guests state that in some rooms, the
connection on the patio door is wired to the AC. So you can either
switch on the AC or keep the patio door open. It is not possible to open
the door and switch on the AC simultaneously. The mini-bar and the
liquor dispenser are re-stocked on a regular basis, though at times you
might have to remind the staff about the same.
Most of the time, after you return from the day's activities, you can locate miniature animals made out of towels adorning your pillows, and the staff take great care to make this little extra effort. Most will find the beds comfortable, if not slightly hard. However, you can place an order for extra foam if you need to.
As far as the Internet is concerned, Riu Jalisco does not provide Internet connection in each individual room. You can access the same from the internet cafe by paying additional charges.
During your stay at Riu Jalisco, you can take a walk down the Playa
de Flamingos beach. However, if you are planning to take a walk
sometime after 10 AM don't forget to wear a pair of beach shoes
as the sand can get very hot. Also do not expect
white sand near this beach. The sand here is copper brown. You can also
take a swim in the water, but you may not find it too clean. If you do
not want to swim in the murky water, you can definitely try out the
swimming pool. Riu Jalisco has separate swimming pools for adults and
children. The resort staff also organizes beach activities such as
beach ball, volleyball etc for the guests. Apart from this, you
can also join in activities such as bingo, music trivia quiz, beer
drinking contest, pool volleyball, water aerobics etc. The staff also
organizes introductory scuba lessons and most visitors state that the
instructor does a good job. You can also try out the various
non-motorized water sporting activities available to Riu Jalisco’s
guests. Windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, boogie boarding,
catamaran etc are some of the activities organized by the resort. The
boogie boards are available free of cost. Similarly, kayaks are
available for one hour per day per room. The staff also organizes
classes on basic catamaran skills but at an extra charge. Other activities include table tennis, shuffleboard, French bowls,
air gun shooting, volleyball etc. If you want to test your tennis acumen
then why not hit some shots on the two tennis courts? The resort also
has Jacuzzis and sauna as well as a gym, which might appeal to those who
are interested in keeping fit even while on a vacation. The resort also
has various entertainment shows at night, however, most
guests find that the quality is just okay.
The Brazilian restaurant Brazilian Rodizio should not be missed. It serves some great food, in the traditional Brazilian fashion. Don Emiliano is also quite popular. Here you will find all the traditional resort fare. If you venture near the Oriental section, do not forget to try out the fried ice cream. Also, the beachfront restaurant is a must, especially to view the sunsets.
