Editorial Review

The 339 room Velas Vallarta was built in 1990 and is situated on a 10 acre beachfront site.  It is close to the marina, and within walking distance of an 18-hole golf course.  The resort is only 15 minutes from downtown PV, and 5 minutes from the airport.  Similarly, tourist attractions such as the Shopping Center Plaza Marina and the Marina Vallarta Golf Course are also close by.  The resort can prove to be perfect for families and couples who are looking for a calm, yet fun-filled resort.

Velas Vallarta offers 339 rooms that are classified into three categories such as studio, one bedroom suite, two-bedroom suite and three-bedroom suite.  In addition, all the suites have separate living and dining rooms. You should opt for a suite if you are traveling with a large group.  As far as the selection of rooms is concerned, you should try for those on the higher floors as they provide a better view of Banderas Bay.

Guests say that the rooms are clean and spacious.  Since Velas Vallarta was constructed in 1990 you might notice some wear and tear, but most guests claim that overall the property is in great condition.  The rooms are fitted with standard amenities such as AC, direct telephone lines, satellite TV etc.  and most like the idea of having a kitchenette in the room.  Here, you can locate varied items of daily use such as pots, pans, dishes and other cooking utensils.  In addition, you can also make use of the available toaster, microwave oven and coffee maker.  You can also find a fully stocked mini bar and fridge that contains items like sodas, beers, fruits etc.  Similarly, the kitchen is filled with snack items such as Budlight chips, nuts and cereals etc.  The Velas Vallarta is an all-inclusive resort so you do not have to pay any extra charges for the food kept in your room.  Moreover, the staff regularly restocks the items in the minibar and the fridge.

As far as the beds are concerned, guests say that they are comfortable but, since the resort virtually lies next to the airport, some of you might feel the need for earplugs.  If you want to to log onto the web, then you need to step out of your room.  Velas Vallarta does not provide Internet connections in individual rooms.  However, you can use the wireless Internet connectivity that is made available in the common areas of the resort.

If you want to walk on the shoreline of this beachfront resort, you will find the sand is fine and there are no rocks or pebbles.  However, the water is not very clean and at times has a strong undercurrent.  For those who are not too good at swimming, you can certainly try out the three swimming pools.  Guests say that the pools are very large and hence do not tend to get very crowded.  The staff also organizes beachside volleyball games, pool volleyball, bingo, water workouts etc.  The staff also conducts scuba diving sessions near the pool.  You will also hear a lot of music being played by the DJ, including some authentic Mexican slow tempo as well as American pop and Mexican club music.  Apart from the activities, the pool is also famous for its animals. You can locate iguanas and peacocks that are often found near the pool area.

If you love non-motorized water sports, then you can certainly try out scuba diving, kayaking and snorkeling trips organized by the resort.  You can also play ping-pong or practice a few tennis shots in the three tennis courts that dot the premise of Velas Vallarta.  The resort also has a basketball court.  If you would like to continue working out during vacations, then why head for the gym which has equipment such as treadmill, stair climber and electronic bicycles, although it does not have weights.  Guests also recommend trying out the spa at Velas Vallarta.  You can go in for various massages or treatments such as haircuts, nail care and hair care.

You should definitely take a walk around the resort’s gardens.  Remember Velas Vallarta sits atop a 10-acre site and much of this 10 acre is covered in green foliage offering a perfect treat to nature lovers.

Most visitors recommend trying out Andrea Gourmet Restaurant, which is a themed restaurant.  It is famous for its lobster, steak, duck, shrimp, wines and desserts.  La Riberia is known for its lobster tail.  The poolside snack bar offers nachos, pizza, hotdogs chicken wings, fruit cups, mini-pizzas etc.  Guests also have the option of trying out the restaurants of Casa Velas, a sister resort of Velas Vallarta.

The best feature of Velas Vallarta is perhaps reserved for the kids.  The resort has a special pool for children and is filled with floating toys.  It also has a special kids club that features activities such as arts and crafts and treasure hunts, water-balloon fights etc.  Most guests find the resort is extremely child friendly.
